Offroad adventuring with Dodge Ram

Quick notes

  • Dodge has some of the best offroad vehicles available for purchase in the North American market.

  • Popular opinion is that the Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel, Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon, and the Dodge Ram 2500 Outdoorsman are the best Dodge Rams for offroading.

  • If you’re looking for something to tow the boat and rip through the woods, the Dodge Ram 2500 Outdoorsman is an excellent choice.

The Dodge Ram is built for adventures and off-the-beaten-track adventures, but there are so many configurations to choose from. How do you know which Dodge Ram is best?  We’ve narrowed it down to three.

1500 Rebel

This Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel looks soo good you may not be sure you’d want to take it off the road. But, for those that enjoy onroad and offroad adventures, the Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel is an excellent choice.

“The Dodge Ram 1500 features the 5.7L Hemi V8 with 359 horsepower and 410 pounds-feet torque. More than enough power to head offroad and make it out of the mud.”

A real sports offroad vehicle, the Dodge Ram 1500 comes with improved Halogen lighting to light the way out of the woods or those muddy pits. Nothing like getting stuck and not being able to see your way out.

If the furthest offroad you’re taking the truck is the gravel road to the cottage, the cargo bed is illuminated for all of your gear and firewood, dividers, and tie-downs to keep everything in place.

2500 Power Wagon

The Dodge Ram Power Wagon already has a name that screams fun, and it certainly looks fun!

“Paired with the 6.4L Hemi V8 this truck screams ‘if I step on the gas too hard I’m spending the night in jail.'”

For those that are more interested in towing toys than offroading, the Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon has a maximum towing capacity of 10,030 pounds. With that capability comes sufficient torque to get yourself or your buddy out of those muddy situations.

The Power Wagon has a 4.1 axle ratio with Tru-Lok front and rear axles along with a  front disconnecting stabilizer bar allowing the truck flexibility for those all-terrain climbs. This is not just a truck for gravel roads. We are talking about serious offroad adventures!

Trouble is easily avoided off the beaten path with the standard 17-foot all-terrain tires and electric winch. When your buddy hits the ditch, you don’t need to call a tow truck.

2500 Outdoorsman

Not sure anything screams offroad adventures more than something named the “Outdoorsman.”

The Dodge Ram Outdoorsman has the same 5.7L Hemi as the Dodge Ram Rebel. What differentiates the Outdoorsman are the high strength tow hooks, fog lamps, dual alternators, and anti-spin rear differential.

The two alternators are a sign that this truck is a severe piece of offroading machinery. It also means it’s equipped to tow your toys and sports machinery easily up the gravel road to the cottage or down to the boat launch.

“The Dodge Ram Outdoorsman has enough power to tow your boat and be taken offroad for some mud fun. “

The Dodge Ram offers many variations for each type of driver and situation. If you’re looking for some offroad fun, but something that can still be used for sports utility and towing, the Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel, 2500 Power Wagon, and 2500 Outdoorsman are excellent, reasonably priced options.

Suitable for the casual offroader, the weekender, or the serious outdoorsman.
